Solidarity for the Empowerment of Vulnerable People Incorporated (SEVP Inc.) is a community-based non-profit organization dedicated to supporting vulnerable individuals and families in Ottawa and across Ontario who face barriers related to poverty, disability, social isolation, settlement challenges, and lack of access to essential support services.
The proposed project aims to improve the living conditions, well-being, dignity, and community inclusion of vulnerable populations by providing free or low-cost indoor and outdoor home support services. The project focuses particularly on newcomers and immigrants, seniors, individuals living with disabilities, low-income households, vulnerable women, and families experiencing hardship.Many vulnerable individuals are unable to maintain safe and healthy living environments due to financial hardship, physical limitations, language barriers, lack of social support, or limited knowledge of available community resources. As a result, many live in unsafe, unhealthy, or neglected conditions that negatively impact their physical and mental health, safety, and overall quality of life.

Supporting Vulnerable Individuals
Through this project, SEVP Inc. will organize trained volunteer and support teams to provide practical assistance directly to individuals and families in need. Services will include indoor home support such as general cleaning, organizing, kitchen and bathroom sanitation, and household maintenance, as well as outdoor support services including lawn mowing, snow removal, garden care, yard maintenance, and light outdoor repairs.The project directly supports the stream’s objectives by:
In addition to direct support services, the organization will continue collecting and distributing donated household items, clothing, winter boots, furniture, and basic necessities to families and individuals who cannot afford them. This humanitarian support complements the home assistance program by addressing urgent material needs and helping clients establish safer and more stable living conditions.
The project further aligns with community development and inclusion objectives by creating opportunities for volunteerism, community participation, and cross-cultural engagement. Volunteers and community members will gain valuable skills in teamwork, social support, community outreach, and service delivery while contributing positively to the well-being of vulnerable residents.
The long-term goal of the project is to expand SEVP Inc.’s reach across Ottawa and eventually other regions of Ontario so that more vulnerable individuals and families can access consistent, compassionate, and practical support services. Through this initiative, SEVP Inc. seeks to strengthen communities, reduce isolation, improve living standards, and empower vulnerable people to live safely and with dignity.
